Vassers Mini Mart owner Jamie Calvert passed away on Saturday at age 55. The store is closed on Tuesday so staff can attend Calvert's funeral service.

The service was held at Crosspoint Christian Church with Rev. Alan Yarbrough officiating. Interment followed at New Live Oak Cemetery.

In a post on Facebook about closing on Tuesday, Vassers said, "Please keep the Vassers Mini Mart family in your prayers as we lay one of our own to rest. Thank you for understanding and your continued support. We will reopen Wednesday morning at 6 a.m. Jamie Calvert we miss you already!"

Calvert was born in Selma on July 20, 1966 to James Leonard Calvert and Norma Jean Calvert.

Calvert is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Calvert; children, Celia Calvert and Chase Shipman; his mother and father; father-in-law, Gene Hisel and a host of nieces and nephews he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Crosspoint Christian Church with Rev. Alan Yarbrough officiating. Interment will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Lawrence Brown Service Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Lowell Butts, Jimmy Posey, Cheyenne Bradford, Adam Green, Packy Dempsey, Darren Mcgilberry, Marty Vice, Sandy Carroll, Chuck Utsey and David Sherrer.
