Selma ranks among top 10 most hospitable cities in US by Airbnb

Woolworth Lofts are among the most popular Airbnb properties in Selma.

Selma is listed by Airbnb as one of the top 10 most hospitable cities in the US.

As World Tourism Day approaches on Sunday, Airbnb unveiled its top 10 list of cities that received the highest percentage of listings with five-star-reviews between June 2019 to June 2020.

Along with Selma are Ashland, Ohio; Lexingon, N.C.; and Hamilton, NY.

The remaining six cities include:

  • Kingston Springs, Tennessee
  • Campobello, South Carolina
  • Saint Johnsbury, Vermont
  • Winona Lake, Indiana
  • Sanbornton, New Hampshire
  • Loomis, California

In a news release, Airbnb says this year is the "Year of Tourism and Rural Development" and is shining a light on the economic importance of rural travel as World Tourism Day approaches.

"At Airbnb, we're seeing firsthand how travel and tourism are helping rural communities across the globe begin to recover from the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic," the company said. "Specifically, our data shows a shift in travel away from urban destinations and toward more rural areas and smaller communities. For example, in August, more guests stayed in the Catskills and Hudson Valley than stayed in New York City."

Results also showed more stays at the Alabama Gulf Coast than Miami.
