Avis Williams at Strategic Plan Summit

Superintendent Avis Williams speaks at a summit that proposed updates to the Selma City Schools Framework For Excellence plan.

Following a strategic planning summit on Thursday, Sept. 23 Selma City Schools has released a draft for its proposed updates to the Framework For Excellence plan.

The current plan targets four areas of education. These are: teaching and learning; culture, climate and community; leadership, governance and management; and facilities and technology.

The update would add a fifth area: safety and wellness. In a recording of the summit, Superintendent Avis Williams said that the area would specifically address physical and emotional safety.

Speaking at the summit, Williams cited the COVID pandemic that schools all throughout the nation and the world have had to adjust to.

"The pandemic changed so much for all of us," she said. "And we're being responsive to that, not only in the updates to our overall strategic plan but also in adding this additional area. So these updates are taking into consideration the pivots that we had to make with the pandemic."

A copy of the draft is available online to be viewed. Selma City Schools also seeks input from others on the updates.
