Longtime Selma chef Roosevelt Johnson is taking a leap of faith and opening a new seafood restaurant in the old Pizza Hut building on Highland Avenue.

Rojo’s Seafood Express is slated to open in early September.

“God gave me the vision to start this,” said Johnson, who started cooking at his Valley Grande home for friends and neighbors. “We started cooking out of our house in Lazy Acres six years ago. Then we started cooking in outlying communities like Dixon’s Mills, Greenville, Evergreen and Monroeville. We took a propane tank and some pots and pans and cooked.”
