Registration is now open for Distinguished Young Women, a scholarship program for young woman entering their senior year in high school.

Orientation will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at McConnell Twins Dance Studio, 3966 Landline Road. Interested participants can register online at http://distinguishedyw.org/Apply-Now/

Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments. Distinguished Young Women strives to give young women the opportunity to further their education and prepare for a successful future.

“Distinguished Young Women is scholarship program for young women who are interested in achieving personal goals, receiving scholarship opportunities and gaining self-confidence,” said Demisha Stough, Dallas County Distinguished Young Women Committee Chairman.

“Participating in the Distinguished Young Woman Program was one of the best things that I did during my senior year,” said Mary Alan Ousley, Dallas County’s Distinguished Young Woman 2021. “Not only did I win scholarship money for college, but I also developed leadership skills, performance arts and friendships that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”

The program will take place at Pickard Auditorium on Washington Street on Aug. 21. Participants compete in five categories: scholastics, personal interview, physical fitness, talent and self-expression.

“DYW is a life-changing program for its participants,” said Merrill Bolton South, Dallas County Distinguished Young Women Committee Member.

Dallas County’s Distinguished Young Women scholarship program awarded local high school seniors more than $12,000 in scholarship money in 2021. The local winner will advance to the state program in Montgomery, where there is an opportunity to win more than $42,500 in cash tuition scholarships. The DYW program awards $1 billion nationally each year.
