Within the rich history of Selma and Dallas County are many twists and ironies. One is Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.
The church building was built from the ruins of war, but not just any scrap building material. This house of God, love and peace was built from the ruins of the Confederate Arsenal, a building that made implements of war.
Oct. 10 the church will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the dedication of the church. Parish Council President Beth Wilson said the celebration was supposed to have been last year, “but COVID-19 had a different idea for us.”
