The Morgan Academy Board of Directors recently announced the hiring of Dr. Bryan Oliver as the school’s new headmaster, effective July 15.
According to a letter from the school’s board of directors released Friday, July 16, Dr. Oliver, former head of Tuscaloosa Academy, comes to Morgan with a wealth of professional experience, expertise and leadership skills.
“His level of education, stellar reputation, professional affiliations and vision for our school make him an excellent fit for Morgan Academy,” the letter states.
The board reported an intense process to recruit the strongest candidates. And from a field of five individuals, a search committee narrowed the field to the most highly qualified candidates for interviews.
The letter states, “It was clear from Dr. Oliver’s interviews and outstanding references that he was the best candidate to move Morgan Academy forward.” And “The full board of directors voted unanimously to extend the headmaster position to Dr. Oliver.”
Oliver holds a bachelor of science degree in finance, as well as a master of arts and doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Alabama and has more than 18 years independent school and higher education experience in teaching and administration.

He served as a high school guidance counselor for two years and high school principal for six years at Saint James School in Montgomery. And for the past three years, he served as head of the school at Tuscaloosa Academy where he increased enrollment, initiated a new technology program, managed and balanced the annual budget and supervised 65 faculty and staff.
Oliver currently serves on the board of advisors for the College of Education at the University of Alabama, is a member of and serves as the treasurer for the Alabama Independent School Association’s State Board and is married to Beth Oliver. They have two sons, John Rivers and Rex.
The Morgan Academy Board of Directors thanked Karim Oaks for serving as interim headmistress.
