Selma and Dallas County Long-Lewis Automotive Group is accepting nominations for Local Hero of the Month for January.

Nominees are chosen based on contributions made to the community. The chosen nominee will be given $500 for "Outstanding Community Service" and a Certificate of Appreciation.

To nominate someone, comment on the Facebook post and the one with the most likes will be chosen. The winner will be announced on the first day of the following month.

A winner can only be nominated every six months in order to encourage more people to take part in the effort.

"We look forward to rewarding our citizens for their ongoing efforts to make Selma & Dallas County a better place to live and for aiding those in need within our communities," the group commented on the post. "We also look forward to your participation in spreading the word so all who deserve recognition have an opportunity to be awarded."

Previous winners were Hatwatha McGhee, Lamarkus Snow, Roosevelt Johnson and Santana Hurry.
