The statewide face mask order issued in response to the COVID-19 virus in 2020 has been lifted, although wearing masks is still recommended.

In an announcement on her website, Gov. Kay Ivey states that she is now issuing a Safer Apart order, a transition from the previous Safer at Home order.

The Safer Apart order is the third phase of the pandemic health orders, the announcement says. The previous order will expire on Friday, April 9 at 5 p.m.

A copy of the Safer Apart order can be seen online. The order also details guidelines for health care buildings, senior care centers and other related settings.

The Alabama Department of Public Health's dashboard shows 3,520 cases and 150 deaths in Dallas County. Vaccine rollouts continue throughout the state and nationwide.
