Edgewood Elementary School was one of 26 others to receive a grant from BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama (BCBS) to fight childhood obesity.

BCBS's Be Healthy School Grant Program awarded $252,000 in grants to schools enrolling students in grades K through six for the 2021-2022 school year.

Each school participating in the program received up to $10,000.

"The grants are for the implementation of school-based health and wellness programs, emphasizing increased exercise, nutrition education and parental involvement during the school year," said a press release from BCBS. "More than 12,200 students will benefit from the program."
