Selma cityhall

Selma City Hall.

The City of Selma Office of the Mayor has issued a winter storm advisory and notice of office closure.

Due to the threat of severe weather, all non-essential city services will be closed on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The City will continue to monitor the situation and depending on the severity of the event may make further changes to hours of operation.

The public is encouraged to stay off roadways if at all possible. The Selma Police Department and Fire Department will be on regular duty and the Public Works Department will be on call and working diligently to address issues as they occur, along with reporting issues to the Alabama Department of Transportation and local utility companies.

The Dallas County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) will continue to monitor conditions and keep residents up to date as the weather system moves in. Residents are encouraged to prepare for freezing temperatures to protect property and pipes. Because road conditions, power lines, and/or trees may be impacted, residents are asked to use caution, and not to travel unless absolutely necessary. In addition, be aware of a space heater and generator dangers if not properly used
