James Perkins Jr. won a third term for mayor of Selma in a runoff election on Tuesday. His first two terms were from 2000 to 2008.

The Christian Clergy In Action Ministry Alliance of Selma/Dallas County has endorsed Rev. James Perkins for Mayor of Selma.

President Jonathan Shanks said the Alliance met with both candidates and made the decision to back Perkins.

"We felt that Selma needs a person with experience at this pivotal time in our city and Perkins being the former mayor has a proven success record and would make the best person to fill the position as Mayor of Selma," Shanks said in a press release.

Both Miah Jackson and James Perkins met via zoom meeting with the Christian Clergy In Action members on Sept. 26 for an introductory meeting and to discuss their platforms and plan for Selma.

Pastor Shanks said after much discussion and prayer, the members unanimously voted to endorse James Perkins for Mayor of Selma.
