Cancer specialist Dr. Shelby Sanford said he remembers a time when patients from rural areas told him they couldn’t take life-extending treatment because it was just too far away.

“So, we’re bringing the treatment to them,” he said at the ribbon cutting for the Cancer Care Center of Selma on the campus of Vaughan Regional Medical Center on Nov. 13.

Vaughan Regional Medical Administrator David McCormack said the center represents a $4 million investment, “but what’s really exciting is that patients will be able to get services they could not get without traveling a long way.”
