Daily COVID count
The Alabama Department of Public Health is reporting 22 cases of the more resistant UK strain of COVID in seven counties throughout the state.
The B.1.1.7 strain, initially identified in the UK, have been found in Autauga, Montgomery, Jefferson, Madison, Mobile, Elmore and Crenshaw counties.
ADPH continues to partner with private and commercial laboratories for sequencing to detect, ADPH expects more cases of this highly transmissible variant to be identified within the state.
At this time, many infectious disease experts and the CDC have indicated that the current COVID-19 vaccines should be effective against the UK strain. However, it is still being studied. Read more here.
