Downtown cleanup on Saturday

Downtown cleanup is planned on Broad Street.

Two city council members and downtown merchants are hosting a community cleanup Saturday morning of downtown in preparation of the holiday season.

Councilmen Clay Carmichael and Michael Johnson are asking residents to come to Songs of Selma park at the foot of the Edmund Pettus Bridge at 8 a.m. through 11 a.m. to do a "quick sweep of Broad Street and the surrounding blocks," they said on their Facebook post.

They are asking to bring weed eaters and blowers, and organizers will supply garbage bags and gloves.
